The model rates each team from its current roster and who is out injured, then adds home court and rest. When a spread is posted we pick the side the model likes against it, and Confidence is the model's chance that side covers; with no spread yet, it is the model's chance that team wins. Each game's pick locks about 2 hours before its own tip-off, after the latest injury report, and only locked picks count. A game is a top pick only when the model's confidence reaches 60% — a real lean, not just the best of a quiet slate — up to 4 a day; some days there are none. Win and cover chances come from how far games have landed from our projection (preseason: measured on this preseason's games; regular season: the same curve until enough regular-season games are in to re-measure it). Each game has up to three separate reads from one projected score - the winner, the spread and the total - the last two compared with the posted number and locked with the game's read at tip-off. All three chances come off that one curve, so they always agree with each other; neither the spread nor the total read has beaten the posted numbers in our history, and the record on this page is the judge of that. Player props come from our separate player model: up to 5 per game, only the ones it rates most likely to hit, locked before tip-off. Confidence on a prop is the model's chance it hits.
