New York Yankees vs Cleveland Guardians Picks and Predictions: Dave Covers Spreads, MLB FREE PICK

The New York Yankee are set to face off against the Cleveland Guardians for a three-game series finale on Sunday afternoon. Game 1 was postponed and forced a double-header Saturday in which the Yankees claim two wins in dominate fashion. However, can they secure the series sweep? Here is my complete prediction and breakdown

New York Starters Find Form

As much as the New York Yankees have been dominate as of late they actually went through a relative rough patch with the starting pitchers. Things seem to have gone back to normal however and the Yankees look as good as normal. The Yanks are in the middle of big 10-game road trip and look to continue their dominate play. They did not lose a series in June and have built up a huge lead in the AL East.

The Yankee’s have been a unstoppable offensive team, scoring a league second 5.0 runs per despite their combined batting average of just .238 (17th in the Majors). They do lead the entire MLB in homers for the season as a team with an incredible 127. Aaron Judge is having a MLB caliber season posting a team-leading 59 RBI’s and 29 home-runs. Fellow hitter Matt Carpenter is leads the team in batting average with .293.

The Yankees pitching staff is the best in the league. Posting a combined ERA of 2.92 and WHIP of 1.06 the team is allowing just 3 runs per game. For this matchup left-hander Jordan Montgomery takes the mound and is looking to bounce-back after to rocky starts. Montgomery allowed a combined 15 hits and 9 runs in his last two starts but before this has been lethal on the mound. For the season he is posting a 3-1 record over 85.1 innings of play, for a 3.27 ERA and 1.02 WHIP as well as striking out 64 batters. This looks like the perfect team for him to gain his confidence back as the Guardians are batting just .108 against left-handers in their last 5 and scoring just 0.79 runs per game.

Rollercoaster Guardians

The Cleveland Guardians have been a rollercoaster this season. They have rebounded from a five-game skid by winning three of five against the Twins this week to stand two games behind the rivals. Cleveland is 3-6 on the current nine-game home-stand.

They were looking like a dominate offensive lineup a few weeks ago but have cooled off dramatically. For the season the Guardians are batting a lead tied 12th at .246, have a OBP of .309 and are drilling in 4.4 runs per game. 29-year-old star Jose Ramirez is having a career year, launching 16 homers accompanied by 63 RBIs and a .969 OPS. However, Ramirez has zero RBIs in his last seven games. The Guardians have also struggled against lefties this season posting just a .219 batting average compared to .252 against right handed pitches.

Taking the mound for the Guardians is Triston McKenzie, who is making his 15th start of the year. Just like the team McKenzie has been a rollercoaster this season but has produced some respectable numbers. Overall the young leftie is posting a 4-6 record over 80.1 innings, leaving him with a 4.03 ERA and 1.05 WHIP. In his last start against, McKenzie allowed 7 runs on 8 hits over 6 innings to the Minnesota Twins. Whilst he does perform better at home, I am hesitant to think he can bounce back against such a dominate offensive team in the Yankees.

Value is Too Good To Pass

Whilst you may be hesitant to back Montgomery after his last two starts its simply too hard to pass on this Yankees lineup vs the struggling Guardians offense. Pair this with the fact that the Guardians struggle against left-handed pitching and the Yankees have the best bullpen in the MLB to turn to if needed, I am taking advantage on the value on the money and taking them to win.

Back the Yankees.
