New England Patriots vs Miami Dolphins Picks and Predictions: Dave Covers Spreads, NFL FREE PICK

The Miami Dolphins are set to play host to the New England Patriots on Sunday in their first game of this NFL Season. These teams have been built into a rivalry in the last few years and both teams have playoff hopes this season. Last season, Miami stunned many by sweeping the season series. This will be one of the most exciting matchups on Sunday's docket and one that fans won't want to miss.

MAC LOOKING TO LEAD PATS BACK TO PLAYOFFS

The experts are down on the England Patriots this season and with fair reason, their are numerous questions that could prove concerning for the Pats this year. Last season Mac Jones and the Patriots got obliterated by the Buffalo Bills in the playoffs and lost three of four in the final stretch of the regular season. And it isn’t getting any easy for this team first game this year, Miami seems to be the Pats kryptonite as the Dolphins have won four of the last five between the teams.

If things weren’t bad enough in New England already injuries are making things even worse. On the offensive line, they are already with Andrew Stueber (hamstring), while Isaiah Wynn (back)is questionable. With two wide receivers already ruled out, eyes turn to the status of Jakobi Meyers (knee) and Ty Montgomery (ankle). Both are probable and will be needed considering the lack of depth at that position.

Majority of the concerns come offensively with the Patriots, with the loss of Josh McDaniels they are still yet to name an offensive coordinator. Mac Jones had a stellar rookie year but now he enters year 2 with a lack of offensive weapons, especially in the style Mac is best at playing, we could see lots of runs from the Patriots, especially in game 1.

New Englands defense has been solid for years now and we know how Belichick operates, he wants to remove your biggest weapon. In this case that means all eyes and attention will be on newly acquired star Tyreek Hill down-field.

DIFFERENT DOLPHINS THIS YEAR

The Miami Dolphins enter this season with high hopes and look to build on their momentum built last year, winning eight of their last nine games. Adding in a win at home against the Patriots in the finale, the Dolphins know that if they want to turn the corner and become a contender, it'll start with grabbing the win on Sunday.

The addition of Tyreek Hill was one of the biggest story lines in all of the NFL off-season. It looks like he could be exactly what Miami need to turn that corner and become a real contender.  His unbelievable speed and explosiveness should open up key holes for Tea and the Miami run game. Additionally with Hill Miami have a big 1-2 punch with Jayden Waddle being able to play more free with his new running mate.

The Dolphins new head coach is offensive minded so it will be very interesting to see how the defense fairs in this one. Their are a few injuries of note on the Dolphins side including Byron Jones (ankle) and Trill William (knee) but if their is a game that you could get away with this its agains the Patriots who have little down-field threats.

FINS PROVE TOO MUCH

Without Tom Brady, the Patriots have struggled against the Dolphins. The Patriots were swept last year (and 0-2 ATS) by the Dolphins and went 1-3 SU and ATS in the two years without Brady. The Patriots offense averaged only 18 ppg in those 4 meetings. I am trusting in the Dolphins this season to put up good games and I am fading the Patriots so this a perfect game to do just that. I liked the line much for a -2.5 but as it has moved to -3.5 I will be taking the money line.
