Milwaukee Brewers vs Colorado Rockies Picks and Predictions: Dave Covers Spreads, MLB FREE PICK

The Milwaukee Brewers find themselves in tough playoff race. Now every game is a must win if they want to keep their hopes alive. The Rockies welcomes the Brew Crew as the two teams face off for a 3-games series, with the Brewers taking game 1 6-4. The Rockies led early with a 3-run first inning but the Brewers climbed back scoring 6 unanswered runs. Here is my complete prediction and breakdown

BREWERS HIGHLY MOTIVATED

It isn't secret that the Milwaukee Brewers need to win games now if they have any hopes of making the postseason. Prior to this series they played a tough series against the Diamondbacks in Arizona loosing 3 of 4 games, scoring just 2 runs in those 3 losses. Luckily for the Brewers they now get to face a much softer team in the Colorado Rockies. The Brewers are 7.5 games back of St. Louis in the National League Central, but they are only two games back of San Diego and Philadelphia for the final NL Wild Card spot.

The Brewers offense has been inconsistent batting just .235 as a team they do however rank 9th in runs per game with 4.5 mostly due to pure power, as the team has belted in 185 hime-runs 3rd most in the majors. They do have some great hitters; Christian Yelich is playing his best baseball of the season, Andrew McCutchen comes into this one with 109 hits and Willy Adames has driven in 77 RBI’s.

Taking the mound for the Brewers is 29-year-old right-hander Brandon Woodruff. He is posting good stats coming into this game with a 9-4 record over 114.1 innings of work, for a 3.54 ERA and 1.16 WHIP. He will also being highly motivated not only for the Brewers playoff hopes but for his own redemption, allowing 5 runs on 8 hits last outing against the Diamondbacks. Last time out against the Rockies he went 6 innings for 4 hits and 1 earned run. Milwaukee also has a great bullpen, who are throwing a 1.76 ERA in their last 5 games.

ROCKIES LOOKING ROCKY

The Colorado Rockies weren’t that bad before the All-Star break. They were just seven games below .500, but the second half of the season has not been their friend. Coming into this one the Rockies have a 57-79 record, losing nine of their last twelve games.

Despite their horrible record they have actually been a pretty good offensive team this season. Whilst some of this has to do with their home-park they are posting a team batting average of .259 (good for 4th), getting in 8.9 hits per game. Leading the way for the Rockies is C.J. Cron with 89 RBI’s and 26 home-runs whilst his teammate Charlie Blackmon has brought 74 runners in.

A troubling point for the Rockies is their pitching crew, ranking 29th as a team they have a 5.05 ERA and 1.44 WHIP. I hither last 5 games the pitching crew is giving up 2 home runs per game, troubling news when facing a team with 185 homers. Taking the mound in this one is Chad Khul, who is posting a 6-8 record, 5.19 ERA and 1.49 WHIP. He has allowed multiple home runs in three of his last four starts and has given up at least one homer in eight consecutive starts.

BLAST OFF

The Milwaukee Brewers have everything to play for in this game. Whilst the Rockies advent been a good team this year they have been solid a home posting a 36-33 record, but this is going to be a tough game for them to win. The Brewers almost live on homers, now they are in a hitter friendly field, facing a starting pitcher who have given up at least one homer in each of his last eight starts. Take the Brewers as things could get ugly early.
