The Milwaukee Brewers are desperate for wins as they seek the playoffs and look to get two in a row against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Sunday Afternoon. This is the final game in a 4-game NL series with Arizona taking the first 2 games before Milwaukee snagged game 3 in a extra-inning comeback. Here is my complete prediction and breakdown.
MILWAUKEE IN THE PLAYOFF HUNT
Coming into this game the Brewers have a record of 70-62 placing them 2nd in the NL Central. The Brewers are 7.5 games back of St. Louis in the NL Central and are now 3.5 games back of Philadelphia for the final NL Wild Card spot. So for them, every game counts.
They have struggled to be consistent at the plate this season coming into this one with a team batting average of just .236, ranking 21st in the Majors. They have however still managed to put up 4.5 runs per game and have the 3rd most home-runs in the league with a whopping 181. Willy Adames leads the team with 77 RBI’s, just one ahead of his teammate Rowdy Tellez with 76. Christian Yelich is also picking up at the right time managing a .333 batting average in his last 10 games including 13 hits, 2 homers and 7 RBI’s.
Taking the mound for the Brew Crew in this one is 29-year-old rookie Jason Alexander. He has a 2-1 record over 58 innings of work leaving him with a 4.97 ERA and 1.55 WHIP. He allowed one earned run on three hits and a walk across five innings against Pittsburgh on Tuesday. Milwaukee’s arm-barn comes into this one throwing a 3.85 ERA on the season.
GALLEN ALMIGHTY
The Arizona Diamondbacks have been a secretly good team in the seance half of the season. They have gone 23-17 since the break, and whilst they are still out of the playoff picture this is good news for a team no-one expected to be competitive.
Since all-star break the team has been batting at .252, scoring a big 5.05 runs per game. Christian Walker is having a great year leading the team with 75 RBI’s and 31 home-runs.
The standout story for the Diamondback's has been right-hand pitcher Zac Gallen who will take the mound in this one. Coming into this game Gallen has a 10-2 record, posting a 2.53 ERA, 0.94 WHIP and 145 K’s over 145.2 innings of work. He hasn’t allowed a single run in each of his last 5 starts. In his last 5 games he is posting a ERA of 0.00, WHIP of 0.64 holding opponents to a .186 batting average.
BREW CREW GOES DOWN
The Diamondbacks have been quietly a good team in the second half of the season, and despite their playoff hopes the Brewers have not. I have little faith in this offense and now they have to face the hottest pitcher in baseball. I am trusting in Gallen and the Diamondbacks to build a nice lead early and cruise to an easy series victory on Sunday.
