Los Angeles Dodgers vs St Louis Cardinals Picks and Predictions: Dave Covers Spreads, MLB FREE PICK

The Los Angeles are taking their seven-game win-streak into a 3-game series in St Louis against the Cardinals. The Cards are just 4-6 in their last 10 games, but managed to win two straight against the Phillies including a 6-1 beating last night. They look to continue their momentum in this one and hold off the Dodgers hot hand. Here is my complete prediction and breakdown.

Cardinals Slowing Falling

The St Louis Cardinals got off to a strong start, going 43-35 through June. The winning has slowed down dramatically as the team has one just 4 of their last 12 games. The story for the Cardinals has been their struggling offence. They are currently in second place in the NL Central and one game back from Philadelphia for the NL Wild Card spot.

The Cardinals rank in the lower proportion of top teams in nearly all offensive categories. For example, the team is 11th in runs per game with 4.5, 9th in batting average (.249), 11th at getting on base (.317), and 14th in home-runs (93). The team does have some heavy hitters however, Paul Goldschmidt leads the team with 65 RBI’s and 19 homers and batting a .335 on the season. Teammate, Nolan Arenado is also having a great season with 55 RBI’s and 17 homers.

Taking the mound for the Cardinals in this one is Matthew Liberatore. The rookie left-hander is throwing a 4.74 ERA, 1.74 WHIP over 24.2 innings of work. He played well against Atlanta in his last outing going 4 innings, 3 hits and no runs. He hasn’t allowed a home-run in three games, prior to that he gave up 3 in the same outing against the Cubs.

Dodgers Make it Seven Straight

The Los Angeles Dodgers are in one of their classic winner streaks. In the beginning of June they lost nine out of their first thirteen games, but now they find themselves a 7-game winning streak, and 9-1 in their last 10. They took three out of four against San Diego to open July before sweeping Colorado and Chicago in their last two series.

The Dodgers have a strong batting lineup, hence their gigantic salaries. As a team they are posting 5 runs per game which is second best in the majors. Just like we learnt in MoneyBall, getting on base is important and the Dodgers do it better than anyone at .330 percent. Shortstop Trea Turner leads the way with 103 hits, 61 RBI’s and a .301 average, while first baseman Freddie Freeman at 102. Right fielder Mookie Betts has hit a team-high 20 home runs.

Mitch White takes climbs the hill for the Dodgers in this matchup. Coming in, he is posting a 1-1 record over 40 innings of work with a 3.38 ERA and 1.15 WHIP. He is coming off two solid games in which he allowed just 1 run per game.

Make it Eight

The Los Angeles Dodgers are one of the best teams in baseball, mainly due to their inept depth. White has taken to the rotation well, and the bullpen is one of the best in baseball to support him. He is facing a St. Louis team that has gone ice cold of late, losing eight of its last 11 games. Back the momentum, and the better pitching crew to take this one.

Take the Dodgers.
