The Los Angeles Dodgers are set to battle out against the Milwaukee Brewers in a 4-game series beginning Monday night. The Dodgers are coming off a shutout loss to the Kansas City Royals, prior to this game however the team had managed to rattle off 12-straight victories. The Milwaukee Brewers find themselves 2nd in the NL Central and have been playing solid baseball all season long. Both teams have motivation here, but who comes out on top? Here is my complete prediction and breakdown.
Winning Streak Ends Royally
The Los Angeles Dodgers continue to steamroll just about everybody. The team had managed an impressive 12-game winning streak, all of which the team won by 2 or more runs before last night’s loss to the Royals. The Dodgers offense went ice cold last night, striking out 14 times and only managing 2 hits.
Prior to this game however the Dodgers bats had been smouldering with fire. The team hitting a combined .292 in their last 10, putting up over 7 runs per game including just shy of 2 homers each game. Mookie Betts has had his fair share of the success in this stretch putting up a .340 average and a 1000 OPS for the month. For the season the star right-fielder has also dropped 26 homers and 60 RI’s.
The Dodgers star power doesn’t stop there with the entire pitching staff throwing a combined 2.12 in their last 10 games, holding their opponent to a .190 batting average. This is probably the reason that the Dodgers have covered the spread in 71 of their 79 victories this season.
Taking the mound for LA in this game is Julio Urias who is having another great season. Things may have been slightly rocky for Urias to begin with but for the season he is posting a 12-6 record over 122.2 inning of work, cultivating to a 2.50 ERA and 0.97 WHIP. He has allowed 2 or fewer runs in five consecutive starts and has also pitched well against the Brewers in his career with a 4-1 record and 2.29 ERA.
The Brew Crew
It is safe to say that the Brewers have been inconsistent this month. They lost a disappointing series to the Reds before bouncing back with two wins against the Rays. Moving on they lost 2 of 3 against the Cardinals now trailing St Louis by 1.5 games for the division.
The Brew Crew have medicore numbers across the board, posting a combined batting average of .239 (20th), an on base of .320 (8th) and OPS of .735 (9th). They do however have the 4th most homeruns on the season with 153. New to the team this year Andrew McCutchen has been their most reliable batter, putting up a .740 OPS in August, as well as 50 RBI’s on season.
Taking the mound for this game is Freddy Peralta who shows some good stuff. For the season the rightie is 4-2 over 47.1 innings on the mound. He has a 4.37 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 57 K’s. He played a great game against Atlanta on May 17th where he allowed no runs on 2 hits over 7 innings and was respectable in his last outing with 2 runs on 2 hits against the Rays. Freddy will most likely only last 4-5 innings against this Dodgers line-up but should make them work for their runs. The Brewers arm-barn is posting a 3.81 ERA and allowing 4.2 runs per game.
Back in the Win Column
Who is the best team in baseball? The Dodgers. It is easy to say that the Dodgers are by far the hottest team in the league right now winning 12 of their last 13 games. They may have been shutout last night but I can’t see this offensive juggernaut being denied two nights in a row. Furthermore, Urias is the far more dominant pitcher and with the inconsistency of the Brewers offence he should have no issues holding them back from scoring. Take the Dodgers to bounce back and get the win.
