MARINERS @ ASTROS

Seattle Mariners vs Houston Astros, Dave Covers Spreads MLB FREE PICK

The Houston Astros will play host to the Seattle Mariners on Tuesday in the second game of a three-game series. Will the Astros take the game again?

Betting Trends:

- Under is 8-0 in Flexens last 8 starts as an underdog

- Under is 4-0 in Astros last 4 games as a favourite

- Astros are 4-0 in their last 4 vs. American League West

- Over is 6-1 in the last 7 meeting in Houston

The Seattle Mariners are currently sitting 11th in the Majors, behind Ty France who leads the team with 21 RBI’s and 5 home runs. In their last 10 games the Mariners are 5-5, with a .254 batting average, 3.68 ERA, and outscored opponents by nine runs.

The Mariners are handing the ball to right hander Chris Flexin. He has been awesome to start the season despite his 1-3 record. In his last 2 outings he went 6.2 innings for just 2 runs and 7 innings for 1 run. Overall he is posting a modest 3.38 ERA, 1.17 WHIP on 24 innings of work.

The Houston Astros are sitting 2nd in the AL West with a record just above .500 (12-11). They are playing modest level baseball to start their season, not quite the team we saw last year mostest due to their lineup struggling to get going. They are 6-4 in their last 10 with a batting average of just .235, combined ETA of 3.27 good for outscoring opponents by a total of 7 runs.

Taking the mound for the Astros is Christian Javier. We haven’t seen heaps of Javier but he did go 5 innings in his last start allowing 2 runs on 4 hits. He should be able to post a good 4-5 innings in this matchup against a Mariners team that doesn’t really bring the heat. Overall Javier has a record of 1-0, posting a 1.35 ERA, 0.90 WHIP, 16 strikeouts and 3 batters walked on 13.1 innings pitched.

We have a good pitching matchup here, even if Javier can’t go a full 6 innings of work, the Astros bullpen has being playing well, the team has a combined ERA of  just 3.27 in their last 10 games. The total has gone under the mark the last 8 times Flexin was an underdog, and I’m sticking with it in this matchup. Both offenses are struggling and the pitching staff have been on fire. Expect a low scoring battle between these two ball clubs.
