UTEP takes on Boise State in what should be a good game. After a disappointing loss against UCF Boise will look to make quick work of the visiting UTEP Miners, but can they cover the 4 TD Spread (26.5)? Or can UTEP keep up, or comeback for a backdoor cover? Here is my prediction and game breakdown.
Boise State vs UTEP betting picks for Friday 10 September 2021, Dave Covers Spreads
Boise State came out on fire last week, leading a talented UCF team 24-7 before collapsing in the second half leading to a 36-31 defeat. There are some positive takeaways from this game, their quarterback Hank Bachmeier showed great promise going 25/39 for 263 yards, 2 touchdowns and just 1 interception. He also clicked well with wide receiver Khalil Shakir who managed 91 yards from just 5 receptions including 2 touchdowns. The thing that let Boise down in this game was running and defense.
If we look at UTEP, they are coming in with a 2-0 record, defeating New Mexico State and Bethune-Cookman, both of which aren’t amazing schools. Despite this, the numbers are promising the team has rushed for over 200 yards in both of their first two games. Keep in mind, Boise state let in 255 rushing and 318 passing yards last game. Although the numbers look good for UTEP their competition was week and they will face a much tougher competition here against Boise State.
Although I do expect Boise State to make a statement for their first home game of the season, their rush defense is concerning with a line as big as 26.5. Note the line also opened higher at 27 and has since moved down, this tells you sharp money was coming in heavy on UTEP to cover. In saying that Boise state could put up 40+ points here and with UTEP rushing game looking strong, expect them to get on the board at least twice. My final score prediction is Boise State to win 42-17.
